EBSnet Releases
WebC Web Browser and HTML GUI Software
Development Kit.
Embedded Systems Conference, Boston - September 5, 2001 |
|
|
EBSnet, an established provider of embedded
Internet software since 1987, announced the
release of WebC, their Graphic User
Interface Software Development Kit. WebC
provides HTML based GUI development tools,
Swell Software's PEG graphics library,
Cascading Style Sheets and basic browser
abilities for devices requiring user
interface capabilities. WebC is streamlined
- fast, compact and competitively priced.
EBSnet's WebC SDK allows developers to
utilize existing tools and expertise in HTML
content development. HTML is the only
worldwide ubiquitous cross-network GUI
standard. WebC's rapid interface prototyping
saves valuable development time and cost.
The developer can write the application once
and modify the presentation at anytime
simply by changing the HTML code and keeping
the C event handlers and application code
already written. The WebC solution requires
less memory and runs faster than Java and
Javascript based solutions.
The WebC GUI application development kit
marries the communications capability of
HTTP, markup capabilities of HTML, and
theflexibility and performance of C and C++.
WebC uses the same robust, full-featured
HTML rendering engine as EBSnet's Webster
embedded web browser to display user
interface content. It provides an interface
for the application programmer to handle
user interaction through the use of Custom
C-Function Event handlers. By implementing
DOM (Document Object Model), WebC allows the
application code and custom event handlers
to manipulate the document data, including
tag properties such as position, size,
color, source URL, etc., as well as opening
and closing multiple HTML display windows,
and modifying the properties of existing
ones. This DOM is accessible through a
simple, easy to use C- based API, and also
an object oriented C++-based interface for
more advanced users who want more direct
control over the internal workings of WebC.
BSnet is offering WebC with PEG Graphics
Library bundled or sold separately.
WebC GUI SDK demos are available on the

About Swell
Software Inc.
Swell Software's engineers have a broad
range of experience working with real-time
embedded systems and graphical interfaces.
They found that the GUI development tools
that were on the market were inadequate and
expensive. It was time to build a "better
mousetrap" and sell it at a reasonable
price, which lead to the creation of PEG in
1997. PEG is used in a variety of embedded
applications including a hand-held GPS unit,
wireless TV email system, HTML browser,
flight simulator, in-car positioning data
recorder, audio mixer, engine control
diagnostic station, patient vitals monitor
and workstation BIOS. For additional
