EBS announces
Control Point SDK for managing UPnP
Certified Devices
Groton, MA - January 21, 2005 |
|
|
EBS, Inc., an established provider of
embedded Internet software since 1987 and a
current member of the UPnP Forum, announces
the release of their Software Development
Kit for developing Control Point
applications to manage UPnP certified
devices. The highly portable SDK is designed
specifically for resource crunched embedded
systems. This small and robust SDK makes
developing customized UPnP control point
applications fast and easy.
The UPnP architecture is a distributed, open
networking architecture which uses existing
Internet standards and languages like
TCP/IP, HTTP and XML to transparently enable
peer-to-peer networking, in addition to
control and data transfer among networked
devices in the home, office and public
spaces. The architecture enables control
points to discover and control devices on a
network, independent of particular operating
systems, programming languages or physical
network connections.
EBS SDK for UPnP Control Point sits on
EBS's porting layer RTPlatform, which
makes it independent of the underlying
operating system or kernel. This gives
developers the flexibility to choose the
best platform for their device and still be
confident that their products will be able
to interact with the UPnP certified devices,
regardless of their platform. The EBS SDK
is 100% ANSI-C, easy to implement,
lightweight, and can run in single thread or
multi-thread mode.
"We are pleased to add UPnP control point
SDK to our UPnP product offering," said
Vikram Malaiya, UPnP product manager for
EBS Inc. "This lightweight SDK will
provide the developers with much needed
flexibility in designing customized control
point applications. Our SDK brings to the
table features like extreme portability,
easy to use APIs, tiny footprint, and
comprehensive documentation which will make
it stand out among the available UPnP
solutions."

About the UPnP Forum
The UPnP Forum is a group of companies and
individuals across multiple industries that
intend to play a leading role in the
authoring of specifications for UPnP
devices and services. Formed in June 1999,
the Forum is a non-profit association of
more than 600 consumer electronics,
computing, home automation, home security,
appliances, printing, photography, computer
networking, mobile products and other
leading companies working together in an
open process to design schema and protocol
standards for the UPnP initiative.
The goals of the Forum are to allow devices
to connect seamlessly and to simplify the
implementation of networks in the home and
corporate environments. The Forum will
achieve this by defining and publishing
UPnP device control protocols built upon
open, Internet-based communication
standards. More information is available at

About UIC
The UPnP Implementers Corporation(UIC) is comprised
of UPnP Forum member companies across many
industries who promote the adoption of uniform
technical device interconnectivity standards and
testing and certifying of these devices.
Incorporated in February 2001, the UIC develops and
administers the testing and certification process,
administers the UPnP logo program, and provides
information to UIC members and other interested
parties regarding the certification of UPnP devices.
The UPnP device certification process is open to
any vendor who is a member of the UPnP Forum and UIC,
has paid the UIC dues, and has devices that support
UPnP functionality. Visit www.upnp-ic.org for more
