EBS introduces
Industry's 1st FAT64 file system. FAT64
technology in ERTFS ProPlus-64 overcomes
FAT32's inherent technical limitations.
FAT64 technology is useful in the
development of advanced consumer devices
like set tops, DVRs, digital video cameras
or scientific devices that must store or
retrieve large data sets in muti-gigabyte
volumes.
The FAT 32 file system has been maligned
over the years for its shortcomings.
Shortcomings often mentioned are a lack of
time determinism, lack of 64 bit files, poor
seek performance, lack of control over block
placement policies, simplistic allocation
policies, no guaranteed contiguous
allocation, no support for transaction
processing and of course risk of volume
structure corruption during
system halts. |
